CMMS stands for Computerized Maintenance Management System. It is software that lets organisations plan, carry out and record their maintenance: from a fault report on the shop floor to the stock of spare parts in the warehouse. Definition: what is a CMMS?

A CMMS is a central system that brings together all maintenance activities and the information around them. At its core sits a database of your assets — machines, installations, vehicles, buildings — and everything that happens to them. Work order management

The backbone of any CMMS is work order management: creating, assigning, tracking and closing work orders. A technician sees what needs doing, on which machine, at what priority and with which parts. Preventive maintenance

Beyond reacting to breakdowns, a CMMS schedules preventive maintenance: recurring tasks based on time (every three months) or usage (every 500 running hours).
